The Last Routemasters on Route 19

In March 2005 I happened to be in London on the last day of Routemaster operation on route 19. There are now only a handful of RM-operated routes, and they will be gone by the end of 2005. It was late in the day when I found out, so it was hard to take pictures. By sheer good luck, I got one good night-time picture, at the right. This is possibly the last ever natural light photo of an RM on route 19.

The next day we decided to make the most of the few remaining RMs, by taking the bus from Sloane Square into the West End and back. And the following day, again by sheer good luck, was the "Routemasters' Picnic" - the Cobham Bus Museum Open Day.

To see a full-size version of a picture (generally 1000-2000 pixels wide), just click on it.

We caught RML 2732 on route 22 from Piccadilly Circus to Sloane Square, probably the very last RM I'll ever ride in normal revenue service. Sniff.
