• In the back country beyond Nice is the Le Train des Pignes which in 1994 was devastated by a terrible flood - it seemed for a while that the line would close for ever. Read a story about it.
• In March 2005, I happened to be in London on the last day the bus route 19 was operated by Routemasters.
• And that same weekend, we visited the Routemasters' Picnic (not the official name of course) at the Cobham Bus Museum.
• When I was about twelve, I used to travel around the London bus system on Red Rover tickets, exploring distant, mysterious places like Bexleyheath and Walthamstow.
